Nameservers

DNS nameserver configurations for all Hostek customers

Updated over 2 weeks ago

This article explains which nameservers to use for different hosting products and how to update them. It also includes details about white-label options and configuring private nameservers.

What Are Nameservers?

Nameservers are part of the Domain Name System (DNS). They tell the Internet where to find your website by connecting your domain name to your hosting server's IP address. Think of nameservers as a directory that helps visitors reach your site.

Nameserver Selection

Use the nameservers below based on your hosting service and server location. If you are unsure of which nameservers to use, please refer to the new product information email you received when ordering your product or contact technical support.

US - Windows (Shared & VPS)

  • ns1.hostek.com (ns1.ezhostingserver.com) → 172.64.52.162

  • ns2.hostek.com (ns2.ezhostingserver.com) → 172.64.53.112

US - cPanel/Linux (Shared)

  • ns3.hostek.com (ns3.ezhostingserver.com) → 172.64.52.235

  • ns4.hostek.com (ns4.ezhostingserver.com) → 172.64.53.141

US - Windows Resellers (Shared)

  • ns5.hostek.com (ns5.ezhostingserver.com) → 172.64.52.77

  • ns6.hostek.com (ns6.ezhostingserver.com) → 172.64.53.165

US - cPanel (VPS)

  • ns7.hostek.com (ns7.ezhostingserver.com) → 172.64.52.146

  • ns8.hostek.com (ns8.ezhostingserver.com) → 172.64.53.254

UK Windows (Shared & VPS)

  • ns9.hostek.com (ns9.ezhostingserver.co.uk) → 172.64.52.254

  • ns10.hostek.com (ns10.ezhostingserver.co.uk) → 172.64.53.205

UK cPanel (Shared & VPS)

  • ns11.hostek.com (ns11.ezhostingserver.co.uk) → 5.10.25.28

  • ns12.hostek.com (ns12.ezhostingserver.co.uk) → 5.10.25.29

Branded vs. White Label

We offer both branded and white-label nameserver options:

  • Branded: .hostek.com

  • White Label: .ezhostingserver.com (US) / .ezhostingserver.co.uk (UK)

Both options point to the same servers and function identically. White-label nameservers are ideal for resellers who prefer a more neutral or brand-free setup.

Updating Your Nameservers

If your domain is registered with Hostek, you can update your domain's nameservers via the billing control panel.

  1. Login to your billing control panel

  2. Go to "Domains" → "My Domains"

  3. Click "Manage Domain" next to the domain you want to update

  4. Choose "Nameservers" from the side menu

  5. Select "Use custom nameservers," then enter the appropriate nameservers listed above

  6. Click "Save Changes"

Please allow up to 24-48 hours for DNS propagation to complete.

Using Private (Custom) Nameservers

Private nameservers (also known as vanity or custom nameservers) allow you to use your own domain (e.g., ns1.yourdomain.com) instead of our standard nameservers. This is commonly used by resellers to present a fully branded experience to their customers.

How to Set Them Up

  1. Login to your domain registrar's control panel

  2. Create glue records (host records) for your domain:

    • ns1.yourdomain.com → [Select the IP from Section 3]

    • ns2.yourdomain.com → [Select the IP from Section 3]

  3. Update your domain to use your private nameservers

  4. In your web hosting control panel, update your DNS zone and server configuration to reflect your custom nameservers

Please allow up to 24-48 hours for DNS propagation to complete.

⚠️Important Note:

Our nameserver IP addresses may change periodically. It is your responsibility to monitor for changes and update your glue records and DNS settings accordingly to avoid service interruptions.

Important Notes and Best Practices

  • Avoid circular DNS dependencies
Do not use vanity nameservers based on the same domain they're serving.
    Example: Don't set domain.com to use ns1.domain.com and ns2.domai.com.
This creates a DNS resolution loop that may prevent your domain from resolving properly, especially during initial lookups.

  • Use separate servers for redundancy
Your private nameservers should ideally point to different physical servers (or at minimum, separate IPs/networks) for reliability.
    Example: ns1.domain.com on Server A, ns2.domain.com on Server B.
This ensures that if one server becomes unavailable, DNS service can still function via the other.

  • Monitor IP address changes
The IP addresses listed in Section 3 may change over time. It's the customer's responsibility to keep their glue records updated to prevent downtime

  • DNS propagation takes time
Any DNS or nameserver changes can take up to 24-48 hours to fully propagate across the internet due to caching.

  • Check for DNS consistency
Use tools like intodns.com or mxtoolbox.com to verify your setup once your private nameservers are live.
