The way ColdFusion and Lucee handles white spaces are different. 

If you are encountering white space with Lucee, you have to login to the web admin >> settings >> output >> white-space management and change it to the simple or the smart option.

The smart option will change the way the white spaces are being returned and will act more like Coldfusion.
